Bio

I (Scott McDowell) first visited Victoria when I was a 16-year old new Christian.  It was the first place I engaged with a sense of gospel mission. As I walked the streets, heard peoples stories I got to know the the city’s need for Christ. From that point on I felt as if I was “marked”. God kept this “heart for the city” alive and in 2004 my wife and I came back. Six years and three children later (Dylan 5, Nathan 3 , and Samara 1) we feel this city has become our home.

Victoria is around 4% churched, leaving nearly 350,000 people disconnected from the gospel. We have felt God calling us into church planting for the last  3 years.  In 2008, Lynea and I participated in a church planting assessment with the Grace Network in Vancouver. Our assessment found us provisionally approved and we then completed a 2-year internship with Providence Community Church in Oak Bay.

Planting in such an unchurched community is a vast undertaking. What keeps us hopeful is focusing on our primary job. The task of planting the gospel. As Jesus is made known through our lives and those we lead, we trust in Him to build his church.  We are looking to connect with others who will share our vision of a gospel-centered church, and join this mission.
