Over the past couple of years, Jesus has been working on our hearts to give us a passion to plant a movement of churches in Calgary. Although there has always been a great need to plant churches, the urgency of it did not surface in our lives until late in 2007. At that time Jesus began to burden me deeply with a love for the city as a strategic place of ministry and the passion to call people in cities to live on mission for Jesus Christ. Calgary is a city that is very close to both Lesley and I as it is Lesley’s hometown and I have lived near or around the city for the last 10 years. In 2008, we began to test this call through a very respected assessment process (Acts 29 church planting network), and in early 2009, we began the plan for what would become URBAN GRACE in 2010. As we have planned, we believe that Jesus is so big that He could use us to not only plant a church, but to plant a church-planting church. So that is our dream–a movement that would begin with one church but would spread to see many churches planted in Calgary, throughout Alberta which would ultimately change our city, our province and subsequently our country. It is a large and dangerous vision, but we believe that it is from Jesus. We hope that you will consider finding ways to join us in accomplishing this vision and that you’ll keep praying that URBAN GRACE becomes a church that sees many people in Calgary come to know Jesus and worship Him.
