Bio
Westerne Joseph, an experienced church planter from the greater international family of Mennonites, leads a group of a few families and a good number of children. Presently, this is a church that meets in Montreal. Their main objective is to reach out to the Haitian community that has distanced itself from the faith since their arrival in the province of Quebec. Pastor Westerne and his team also regularly meet with newcomers from Haiti who have recently arrived in the Montreal area.
Westerne and Dieudonne Joseph have six children aged between 8 to 22 years. They come from Haiti.
Presently in Quebec for more than 50 years, the Haitian community currently has approximately 130,000 members, mainly in the region of Montréal and Laval.
Since the earthquake of January 12, 2010, the Quebec Government has developed a special program of humanitarian sponsorship for the families of the Haitian victims of the earthquake. It is estimated that with the regular programs and this special program, about 10,000 Haitian immigrants came to live in Quebec in 2012. 31.7% of the Haitian community is Protestant.
